WebP to PNG Converter: what to know

WebP can store transparency, and many websites use it for logos, icons, stickers and cut-out product shots. PNG is the long-established format for exactly that kind of image: lossless, with full support for transparent and semi-transparent pixels, and accepted by practically every editor, office suite and design tool.

Converting decodes the WebP in your browser and writes the pixels into a PNG, alpha channel included. The PNG step itself is lossless, so the result looks exactly like the WebP did. If the WebP was lossy, its compression is baked into the pixels and carries over unchanged; it doesn't get worse, but it doesn't get better either.

The PNG is usually bigger than the WebP, sometimes by a lot for photographic content, because lossless PNG compression is less efficient than WebP. For logos, icons and screenshots the size difference is smaller. Animated WebP files are converted from their first frame, since a standard PNG holds one image.
