PDF to PNG: what to know
PDF to PNG renders the pages of a PDF as PNG images in your browser with pdf.js, the PDF engine built into Firefox. PNG is a lossless format, so every pixel is stored exactly: text edges, thin lines, charts and diagrams stay crisp, with none of the blur and halos JPG compression can add around sharp details.
Pick 72, 150 or 300 DPI, convert all pages or a selection such as 2-4, 7, and download one page or a ZIP of all of them. Nothing is uploaded, and the images are made on your own device, so the speed depends on your device rather than a queue on someone's server.
The trade-off is file size. A full page of text at 300 DPI as PNG can be several megabytes, where a JPG would be a fraction of that. For photo-heavy pages such as brochures or scanned pictures, PDF to JPG is usually the better choice.
Popular uses
- Putting charts and diagrams from a PDF report into slides
- Capturing pages for documentation or design reviews
- Getting sharp images of forms, tables and technical drawings
- Preparing pages for editing in an image editor
Tips for the best result
- Use 300 DPI when you'll crop into part of a page, so the crop stays sharp.
- Convert only the pages you need to save time and space.
- If the files are too large to share, switch to PDF to JPG.
