Text to Word: what to know
A .txt file has no formatting at all, which is why it opens everywhere but looks plain. This converter puts the text into a Word document in your browser so you can start formatting, track changes or send it to people who expect .docx. Nothing is uploaded and nothing about the text is changed.
Each line becomes one Word paragraph, and each blank line becomes an empty paragraph, so the spacing you see in the text file is the spacing you get in Word. Tabs stay real tabs, so columns lined up with tabs still line up. No text is joined, wrapped or reflowed.
Text in any language works. Files saved as UTF-8 are read as they are, UTF-16 files with a byte order mark are detected, and lines written in right-to-left scripts such as Arabic or Hebrew are marked right-to-left in Word so they display correctly.
Popular uses
- Turning notes, logs or exported text into an editable document
- Meeting a requirement to submit work as a .docx file
- Adding formatting, comments or tracked changes to plain text
- Printing text with Word's page layout and fonts
Tips for the best result
- If your file uses Markdown symbols like # and **, use Markdown to Word instead.
- Lines that were wrapped by hand stay separate paragraphs; join them in Word if you want flowing text.
- Select all in Word and pick a style to change the font for the whole document at once.
